Chris Tennant's paintings are heavy. To starting each painting the surface is built up to resemble eroding rock or a plaster wall after years of paint and wall paper. To get this effect he uses sand, saw dust, and paper suspended in acrylic. These surfaces are very important to his paintings, often acting as a secondary images to the rendered layer. He concentrated on the still life for his latest series, but is also working on figures and portraits currently. His titles show his sense of humor. For example the painting of a coffee cup with the title "top of the morning to ya" or a funnel named "you know a better way to get all this in my head"
