Judy's work focuses on momentary glimpses of landscapes, blurry, as if from the periphery, and textural, physical landscapes rooted in mood and movement. She limits the information on a canvas to what is necessary in order to communicate a mood or sense of a place. It becomes an emotional landscape. Her purpose is to lure someone in and stop time for a split second. Then have the experience linger in their thoughts for a while.
Judy creates art out of necessity. She becomes obsessed by an image or idea and then pushs forward until she has created the piece. It validates her existence.
She is often inspired by colors and textures, motherhood, and nature.
The process is very physical. It doesn’t matter if a piece turns out or not. She enjoys trying new things, pushing and pulling thick globs of color, often using her fingers or palm if necessary. She tries to coax the image to reveal itself. When the moment arrives and she sees the image, she stops instantly. She is done.
